                               Ewden Lodge Branch

This is Norman Froggatt's own branch. It is not yet connected to the main Creswick network. The oldest KNOWN, connected family tree, which may be considered the "Main Line" to which all the rest of us wish to connect..

Ewden (or Yewden) Lodge Farm was first occupied about 1600 by Richard Creswick, a keeper employed by the Wilson family of Broomhead Hall. It became a farm sometime about 1660 and was occupied, copyhold, as such until about 1900. The family bought or rented other lands in the district at times and the map below shows some of these fields which Joseph Creswick (1797-1849) was owned at the 1826 enclosures. It is even possible that some of the fields he owned near Onesacre village are those which were granted to Adam Creswick in 1290 by the Abbey of St Wandrille - and that is my only claim to be descended from Adam! This branch of the family registered its life events, first at Ecclesfield, then mainly at Bradfield, and later at Bolsterstone and Midhope - moving as each chapel of ease was opened, but always connected to Ecclesfield.  The records of these churches do not give a sure connection to parents for the elder Richard. A reference by Mr Wilson the historian of Broomhead Hall, to a Godfrey Creswick as being the first at Ewden Lodge, and to his being buried in Bradfield churchyard, cannot be substantiated

This map of about 1826 shows more detail of the field between ONESACRE and  Bradfield. The coloured ones were occupied, and some owned by Joseph Creswick(1760-1822) and his heir George(1797-1849).   It is even possible that some of the fields they owned near Onesacre village are those which were granted to Adam Creswick in 1290 by the Abbey of St Wandrille - and that is my only claim to be descended from Adam!
