The  Goons

The Guild of One Name Studies is just what its name says. Members who lead studies are concerned with one family surname and its variants. They collect – with varying dedication – everything which can be found about the name. This applies to all places and all times, from today and as far back in history as is possible. Also they agree to help anyone who asks about the name and is looking for family information.

Guild membership is open to all for the annual subscription of £12 and members do not need to take on a special study. Look for more information at www.one-name.org

  The IGI

The IGI is a massive database, well known to almost everybody interested in Genealogy. It is invaluable for new searchers because of the worldwide scope of the data. The best way to find out more and to study the internet site at www.familysearch.org where everything is to be found.

The IGI is made available by the Church of the Latter Day Saints and most of their churches have study centres which deep mines of information. There you can read the IGI on fiche. A vast amount of data can be seen, either what is in store at the centre or by ordering from the Church’s central libraries. Genealogists owe a great debt to the Church.

MAPS showing the distribution of  UK Creswicks in 1881 and 1998. It is quite clear that in 1881 there were most living around Sheffield and a few in Bristol area. In 1998, the heaviest concentration was still in South Yorkshire. The Brsitol folk had spread towards the south-west and a 'Surrey' group had formed. probably from an earlier small group in the London area. DISCUSSION GROUP

There is already a discussion group on Rootsweb, which has been used for several years.

It seems good sense to share in this group instead of opening another to conflict with it. The link is here
